“We are here to restore law and order while we stamp the authority of the state. Let us refrain from all corrupt activities and conduct ourselves with dignity as guided by the constitution. The aim of O Kae Molao is to prioritise the safety and security of the residents and not to harass and steal from them,” was Brigadier Mashole Manamela’s message when he addressed a police parade recently.

The parade was held before O Kae Molao operations started in Tarlton on Thursday, May 5 between 05:30 and 14:45.

“The West Rand District Police have encountered an increase in house robberies incidents, and anyone could become a victim of this violent crime. In most instances perpetrators are armed and aggressive, and won’t hesitate to take a life – even from a defenceless victim,” said Sebonyane.

He urged the community to work with the police and apply these safety tips:
• Ensure that doors and windows are properly locked and closed at all times.
• Install CCTV.
• Ensure that the alarm system is in good working condition.
• Change routines.
• Take caution when hiring employees.
• Keep the walls and garden clear.
• Secure doors and windows.
• Make friends with neighbours.

Sebonyane said Manamela thanked the members and other agencies for their dedication and commitment in making sure that the communities are safe and protected.

“He further encourages the public to report crime or suspicious activities by contacting their nearest police station or calling the police Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or sending and SMS to 32211. Information may also be conveyed to the police on the My SAPS app that can be downloaded on any smartphone.”
