The West Rand Police had another successful Operation Okae Molao recently, this time in Carletonville and Khutsong.
Captain Solomon Sibiya from the West Rand Police’s corporate communications said in a statement that Okae Molao operations continued to make life uneasy for those who defy the law.
On April 7 law enforcement and other role players braved chilly weather from 05:30 to 14:00 to descend on Khutsong and Carletonville during a multi-disciplinary operation.
The West Rand District Commander, Major General Fred Kekana led the five-phase operation. Two roadblocks were set up on the P111 and R500 as well as at the corner of Sompane and Welverdiend Roads.
Two crime-prevention groups were also active and they were joined by the Gauteng and Merafong Traffic Departments, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Community Safety and safety patrollers.
The teams targeted areas in Khutsong and Carletonville which included Khutsong South, Batswaneng, Chris Hani, Khayalethu, New Mandela section, Sonder Water, Chiawela, Xhosa section, Khutsong Extension 5, Oberholzer, Blybank, Carletonville CBD and Blyvooruitzight.
Sibiya said Kekana was pleased with the results and thanked everyone for their efforts after more than 164 arrests were made.
The arrests were for crimes such as possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, dealing in drugs (crystal meth and dagga), possession of live ammunition, dealing and possession of dagga, dealing in liquor without a licence, bribery, damage to infrastructure, illegal mining and 28 illegal immigrants.
The detectives also successfully traced and apprehended 117 suspects who were wanted for various crimes, among them attempted murder, armed robbery, rape, housebreaking and theft, possession of drugs, possession of stolen property, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dealing in drugs, common assault, contravention of protection order, culpable homicide, drunk driving, fraud, intimidation, malicious damage to property, reckless and/or negligent driving, and theft.
The two roadblocks resulted in 60 fines valued at R64 500 being issued for various traffic offences, and the illegal shebeen that was closed down resulted in a 01 J534 being issued for non-compliance.”
