Roadworthy-detecting unit launched in Rand West City
With Easter around the corner, a Mobile Vehicle Testing Unit has already been launched to check roadworthiness of vehicles, catch those breaking traffic laws, and reduce road carnage.
Management of the Rand West City Traffic Department (RWCTD) launched their Mobile Vehicle Testing Unit on the R599 and R558 near Toekomsrus on Monday March 14.
According to RWCTD chief Kenny Mampondo, this was an effort to decrease the road carnage within the region.
The mobile unit, which will be used to enforce traffic laws, primarily will check the roadworthiness of vehicles travelling within the Rand West City region. Those found with non-complying vehicles will face the full might of the law,” Mampondo warned.
He said with the upcoming Easter season and the many long weekends more vehicles were expected on the roads with holidaymakers travelling to and from various destinations.
“The unit will deal harshly with those breaking the law; it will be used to check whether light vehicles, SUVs, 4x4s and taxis comply with the rules of the road,” Mampondo said.
Any vehicle found to be unroadworthy will be taken off the road on the spot, with the offender facing the full might of the law.
“This is so that as law enforcement we can stop the road carnage, and root out non compliance and unroadworthy vehicles on the our roads.
We will operate across the Rand West City region to make sure that motorists abide by the rules of the road and lives are spared,” Mampondo said.
