Man forced to hand over car at gunpoint

They told him not to look at them as they drove off with his vehicle with his phone and a laptop still inside.

A 29-year-old man was robbed of his car, a BMW 3 series with registration HT 97 SV GP at gunpoint by two armed men last week.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the incident took place just before 21:00 on Thursday, March 3.

“The victim who was entering Simunye Ext 3 noticed another black BMW blocking his way. Two people got out of the vehicle pointing firearms at him. They demanded that the victim open the door, and they dragged him out.

They told him not to look at them as they drove off with his vehicle with his phone and a laptop still inside. We’re appealing to the public to assist with the information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“Anyone with information may contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 8040; alternatively contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send information anonymously via the My SAPS mobile app that can be downloaded on any smartphone, or send an SMS to 32211,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

The Bekkersdal Police station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela who condemned the incident also urged members of the community to drink responsibly and refrain from walking or driving alone during the night as they could fall prey to criminals.

“Let us unite in the fight against crime,” Colonel Matamela added.
