Woman, 32, caught with drugs worth R45K on N12, among 133 arrested in district mass operation

Woman caught with drugs worth R45K on N12, R38 300 in fines issued and 133 arrested during massive police operation in West Rand District.

Police and other law-enforcement agencies intensified visibility to reduce crime within the West Rand District during another O Kae Molao operation on Thursday, March 3 from 05:30 to 14:00.

The operation yielded 133 arrests.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane explained, “Crime and violence continue to be a costly pandemic within the District. During the operation, police were joined by members of the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Traffic Police, Merafong City Traffic Police, the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Correctional Services, Community Policing Forums and community patrollers.

The aim was to conduct roadblocks, stops-and-searches, create crime-prevention awareness, visit liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers, and tracing wanted suspects and absconded parolees with the aim of fighting and preventing all forms of criminal activities in and around Fochville and Wedela policing precincts.”

The more than 130 suspects were arrested for the following:

• One for murder
• Five for common robbery
• One for house robbery
• 40 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• 34 for common assault
• Six for rape
• One for housebreaking and theft

• Ten for theft
• 12 for malicious damage to property
• Two for possession of stolen property
• Four for possession of drugs
• One for warrant of arrest for possession of drugs
• Seven for possession of dagga
• One for drunken driving

Other crimes included contravening a protection order, contempt of court, dealing in liquor without a licence, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested at a roadblock on the N12 for dealing in drugs (crystal meth and Khat) to the street value of R45 000. At the same roadblock, a man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property (three iPhones and one Nokia cellphone).

In addition, 53 road traffic fines were issued to the value of R38 800.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Fochville Magistrates’ Court soon.

Brigadier Themba Maduna, on behalf of West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, welcomed the successes and applauded the police and other law-enforcement agencies who committed themselves to continue making sure that our communities are safe, and that those who act against the law are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
