RandWest SPCA management thanked compassionate and willing locals who supported yet another fundraiser held at Tambotie Mall on Saturday February 12. The fundraiser was a pre Valentine’s Day-themed event.

RandWest SPCA chairperson Brenda Eloff said they are always grateful for all the support they receive from all corners of Rand West City and added that these efforts will not only help sustain the organisation but will help meet the animals’ needs.

The fundraiser was held for that simple reason. There was a good reception as people came in large numbers to either buy donuts or the sponsored treats for the animals,” Brenda said.

She explained further that their needs were exacerbated by the busy festive season and January, during which they had to rescue many animals that were abused and neglected by their owners.

“They were even instances where pet owners left the poor animals on their own to go on holiday, which is irresponsible.”

After running at full capacity and exhausting some of their resources they hope that the donations they received during the weekend of love would help them take better care of vulnerable animals a little while longer.

Brenda said the organisation needs a bit of everything – from food for the animals and funds in order to run the organisation, to willing volunteers and committee members.

We plead with the Rand West City community to either assist us financially through a donation or just be an extra hand. You can’t buy food without any money; you can’t pay staff salaries without money; you can’t pay municipal rates and taxes without money; that’s why we hold regular fundraisers – to help the organisation stay afloat.”

Brenda also thanked Wimpy, Tambotie Mall and singer Sonet Shields for entertaining the crowd.

“We’re very grateful for the support people have been showing us. Thank you for your continued support,” Brenda concluded.
