Stage 2 load shedding to be implemented tonight
Eskom appeals to all South Africans to reduce the usage of electricity and to switch off nonessential items.
Although load shedding was suspended, it was short-lived, as Eskom announced yet again that stage 2 load shedding would begin tonight, February 7 at 21:00 until tomorrow morning at 5:00 in order to conserve and replenish emergency reserves.
Eskom stated that further breakdowns might force it to implement load shedding earlier or to extend it beyond Tuesday morning.
“Since midnight we have lost the unit each at Camden, Kusile, Duvha and Matla power stations. Furthermore, the return of a unit at Kusile and two units at Majuba power stations are delayed,” the power utility said.
Total breakdowns amount to 16 261 MW while planned maintenance is 5 350MW of capacity as Eskom continues with reliability maintenance.
