More and more housebreaking and theft incidents reported this past week

Housebreaking and theft has consistently been the most common crime households in Randfontein have suffered.

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security reported another six serious crime incidents in Randfontein for the period from Monday, November 29 to Sunday, December 5.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse gave a breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, November 29 at 04:05 – Theft in Steyer Street, Aureus: Mapogo Response Officer reacted to a panic alarm received from an adjacent premises, the officers was informed that suspects climbed over the wall and stole an unknown amount of steel and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, November 30 at 04:14 – Fire in Village Street, Randfontein CBD: Mapogo Response Officer arrived at the premises and noticed smoke coming from the store, the client and fire department was contacted. The shop was opened and it was established that an electrical fire started behind a fridge inside the store, the fire was extinguished and no other damage was caused.

• Wednesday, December 1 at 15:57 – Housebreaking and theft in Union Street, Greenhills Ext 3: Suspects traveling in a black BMW forced open the lock on the main gate and placed the gate motor on manual operation. The suspects entered the premises where they forced open the safety gate door. Electrical appliances was stolen from the premises and the suspects fled the scene.

• Friday, December 3 at 21:29 – Housebreaking and theft in Malan Street, Randgate: Suspects forced open the lock on the main gate and entered the premises, they proceeded to a business within the complex where they forced open the door locks and main door, electrical appliances was stolen and the suspects fled the scene.

• Friday, December 3 at 21:28 – Housebreaking and arrest in Betty Street, Elandsvlei: On arrival contact was made with the owner who confirmed that suspects broke into his external storeroom, one suspect was apprehended and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.

• Saturday, December 4 at 15:48 – Attempted housebreaking in Aasvoël Street, Helikonpark: On arrival it was found that the safety gate and front door was forced open, the alarm activated and the suspects fled the scene without taking anything.
