Will the real RWCLM council stand up, please?

It also seems that no Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) have been appointed, and staff members seem not to know what's going on at the RWCLM either.

Wednesday 1 December marked exactly one month since Rand West City residents made their mark in this year’s Local Government Elections.

Recently, the Herald compiled and published a list of all the members of the Rand West City Municipal Council, who will be serving for the next five years. Despite the Herald attending the inaugural meeting at the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) on Monday November 22, where 69 members of Council took their oaths, we still do not know much about the RWCLM Executive Mayor.

Then after arranging an interview with the newly elected Executive Mayor, Councillor Gladys Khoza on Wednesday November 24, the Herald was told the mayor was unavailable. The Herald was also told to wait with this announcement.

Alternatively, we suggested compiling a list of questions for the mayor to answer at her leisure, all in an effort to help residents to get to know their mayor. The office of the mayor acknowledged the receipt of the questions, but no answers had been received to date.

The only response the Herald received was that the new mayor was being caught up in meetings. Despite the Herald emphasising to staff members the urgency of doing the interview or simply having our questions answered, no response was received. At times, our WhatsApp messages are only answered after hours or simply ignored.

It also seems that no Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) have been appointed, and staff members seem not to know what’s going on at the RWCLM either.
