Provincial Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said the Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has welcomed the sentencing of a murderer.
Fernando Raymond Tivani was handed a sentence of life imprisonment and an additional 188 years by the South Gauteng High Court on Thursday, December 1.
Captain Makhubela said Tivani had ten cases opened against him by the Krugersdorp, Muldersdrift and Magaliesburg Police. These charges included aggravated robbery, theft, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and murder, which had been committed between 2018 and 2019.
“He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, and a combined 188 years for the other charges,” Makhubela said.
Lieutenant General Mawela congratulated the detective whose hard work and thorough investigation led to the successful conviction of the accused.
He added that the fight against serious and violent crimes remain one of the police’s priorities and that this hefty sentence will serve as a deterrent for others who contemplate committing crime.
