Mass gathering by bikers to save the life of one of their own
R220 000 is needed to pay the medical bills of national president of the Xcalibur Motor Cycle Club South Africa known as Mr H, who is in ICU.
Efforts are being made to raise funds for an iconic biker and national president of the Xcalibur Motor Cycle Club South Africa, Hugo Theunissen, affectionately known as ‘Mr. H’.
According to Jolene Rabie, National Public Relation Officer of Xcalibur MCC, at least R220 000 is needed to pay the medical bills of Mr H, who has since been moved to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The fund-raising initiative was started because his medical aid failed to cover all his medical expenses.
“Due to a bleeding ulcer he was passing a lot of blood. He was stabilised after receiving about 10 blood transfusions, and he now needs emergency surgery,” Jolene explained.
On Saturday, November 13, an army of bikers, family and friends from various parts of Gauteng, including the West Rand gathered at Tenaz’s Clubhouse in Dwarskloof to unite in a cause that can potentially save the life of one of their own.
“We sold boerewors rolls and chicken hot dogs. The cupcakes were sold for R10. Attendees bought raffle tickets for R20 where they signed in, and after that we had a draw. We also auctioned off various items and things that the bikers found interesting,” Jolene said.
Jolene said those who were in attendance were close family members of Mr H, members of Xcalibur, and other members of the public who simply wished to show their brotherly love for Mr H.
Asked about the turnout, Jolene said although it wasn’t what they had hoped for, they’re still grateful to everyone who made the effort.
“We thank the community at large and the biking fraternity who took the time to come and enjoy the day with us for a good cause,” Jolene said.
