Housebreaking and theft still the number-one crime in town – Mapogo crime report

Housebreaking and theft has consistently been the most common crime households in Randfontein have suffered.

It was yet another busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with seven serious crime incidents being reported in Randfontein for the period from Monday, November 1 to Sunday, November 7.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse gave a breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Tuesday, November 2 at 03:45 – Theft on Moerbei Street, Greenhills: Thieves entered the property and stole an electric scooter from the garage.

• Wednesday, November 3 at 18:42 – Theft on Lourie Street, Greenhills: Thieves climbed over a wall during the evening and stole a child’s bicycle that was standing in the yard.

• Friday, November 5 at 03:54 – Housebreaking and theft on Bettie Street, Elandsvlei: Intruders gained entry by climbing over the wall at the rear of the premises and broke the storeroom lock. They grabbed tools and cabling but dropped it whilst fleeing from the response officer when the alarm was activated.

• Friday, November 5 at 05:48 – Housebreaking and theft on Swift Street, Greenhills: Intruders gained entry onto the premises by climbing over a wall. They broke the lock of the Wendy house and stole a compressor and a trimmer/weed eater.

• Friday, November 5 at 19:51 – Housebreaking and theft on Van Riebeeck Street, Homelake: During the evening intruders gained entry onto the property, climbed onto the roof and cut a hole in it to enter the premises. They managed to bypass the alarm system, stole approximately R50 000 in cash from the safe, and fled the scene.

• Sunday, November 7 at 20:16 – Theft on Flamink Street, Helikon Park: During the evening, thugs climbed over the wall and switched the gate motor to manual. They removed the wheels from a bakkie that was parked under the carport and put the vehicle on bricks that were removed from the paving.

• Sunday, November 7 at 21:01 – Theft in Darter Street, Greenhills: Thieved lifted the gate from its rails during the evening and stole tools from the outside room.
