Boyfriend shot and killed for his Ford Figo, girlfriend runs for her life

A young couple was attacked in their Ford Figo. The man was shot and killed before the hijackers drove off in the vehicle on Wednesday night.

A 22-year-old man was shot and killed for his white Ford Figo with registration number DB 60 PK GP in Zuurbekom on Wednesday night, November 3.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, at about 20:15, the victim and his girlfriend were inside the car that was parked near the driveway when three armed thugs ambushed them.

“One of them allegedly knocked on the window and when the victim opened it he was grabbed and dragged from the vehicle,” she said.

Another one of the attackers then approached the passenger side where the girlfriend was sitting, but she managed to get out through another door and ran towards the yard.

While she was running, she heard a gunshot. She saw the three thugs getting into the vehicle and driving off, leaving her boyfriend lying on the ground. He was taken to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

She added that a case of murder and hijacking had been opened and was being investigated.

“We are appealing to the public to assist with information that could lead to tracing and arresting the suspects. We again urge the public not to try and apprehend them on their own as they are deemed to be armed and dangerous.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest may contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111; alternatively send an anonymous SMS to 32211, or via the My SAPS app that can be downloaded on any smartphone,” Lefakane said.
