Major Mandrax bust of R400k: Two women arrested

The total value of the drugs are believed to worth R 400 000

Two women aged 39 and 54 were arrested in separate incidents for being in possession of Mandrax tablets.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, both suspects were caught in Bekkersdal on Saturday October 23 during police operations at the intersection of the N12 and the R28.

“Police stopped the first vehicle which was a Suzuki Swift. In the vehicle they found a 39-year-old woman with two big plastic bags of drugs,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

A few hours later a woman aged 54, who was driving a Suzuki Ertiga was found with eight big plastic bags.

“More than 8 000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of more than R400 000 were confiscated during both arrests. Both women were said to be travelling from Johannesburg to Klerksdorp. They already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday October 25.”

Acting Bekkersdal Police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani commended the police. “This is a good approach that should be utilised by all members on the ground.”
