West Rand District Police recently visited Lukhanyo High School in Mohlakeng to conduct a crime-awareness campaign.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the campaign targeted the Grade 11 learners of the school who were educated on issues such as teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, peer pressure, sexual offences, bullying and discipline.

“We’ve also taught them to have more respect for their teachers and also encouraged them to finish their school career, so that they could live their dreams,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

After addressing the learners, police drove around Mohlakeng to warn locals about incidents that are becoming prevalent such as house robberies, hijacking, business burglaries, housebreaking, motor vehicle theft, rape, gender-based violence, domestic violence and human trafficking.

“In the process we managed to distribute 1 200 pamphlets and also went to Umphakati Mall to further alert business owner and community members to crimes such as business robbery, motor vehicle theft, and theft out of motor vehicles that may occur in the precinct,” Hendricks added.
