Introducing Johnny Vorster as COPE candidate councillor

Another COPE candidate councillor answers a few questions before the upcoming local elections.

Johnny Vorster, Congress of the People’s (COPE) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 8 recently answered the Herald’s questions regarding the upcoming elections.

1. Name:

Johnny Vorster, 51

2. Ward running for:

5

3. Areas that fall under the ward:

Westergloor, Aureus, Oasis and Randfontein CBD

4. Why should the community vote for you?

I’m an honest and a transparent person, reliable, accountable, incorruptible, and I believe I have earned the respect of my community and they know that they can count on me whenever they need me. It is through working with the community that we can achieve so much and build trust amongst each other. We can work together despite our differences.

5. If you were elected what would you focus on and why?

I will focus on creating job opportunities by attracting investment to the CBD and Aureus, and getting jobs opportunities for our youth from the current businesses in Ward 5.

I will also address the sewerage system problem because the system can’t handle the amount of waste flowing through it. This will also include the problem in Aureus where refuse is not collected.

I will also focus on getting rid of drugs and drug lords; all these are long overdue and need urgent attention.

6. Outside of local council duties, how are you involved in the community?

I am currently a pastor of Restoration Worship Centre and serve as the chairperson of the Toekomsrus Christian Pastors Fraternal. In my community I’m running a feeding scheme through the church where we give food to the needy and those heavily affected by Covid-19.

I’m also helping people in Ward 5 with problems related to drugs, crime and community-related issued. I recently join Men as Safety Promoters (MASP) that work in the area under community safety. I believe I am a servant to the people – serving people is my inspiration and that makes me to sleep well at night, knowing I served my community.
