2022 is the ‘Year of the Tiger’

On the Chinese calendar, 2022 is the Year of the Tiger.

According to the website China Highlights ‘the tiger ranks third among the animals in the Chinese zodiac’.

The Year of the Tiger was also celebrated in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and occurs every 12 years.

It names five types of tiger, each with different characteristics:

• Wood Tiger (born in 1974) – compassionate, expansive, and open
• Fire Tiger (born in 1926 and 1986) – optimistic and independent, with poor self-control
• Earth Tiger (born in 1938 and 1998) – adventurous and realistic, with strong faith
• Gold Tiger (born in 1950 and 2010) – women are very enthusiastic; men are indecisive, stubborn and feminised
• Water Tiger (born in 1962 and 2022) – has a strong sense of self-esteem and learning ability

The website says the tiger is “… the king of the animals in China, usually the center of attention and suited to any career as leaders. The best careers for tigers are advertising agent, office manager, travel agent, actor, writer, artist, pilot, flight attendant, musician, comedian and chauffeur.”

Famous Tiger Year people include Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga.

So-called lucky tiger colours are blue, grey and orange, while ‘lucky numbers’ are 1, 3, and 4, and numbers containing them (like 13 and 43).
