Among 127 arrests made during Operation Okae Molao in Randfontein 11 were for domestic violence

Police in the West Rand District stamped their authority during another Operation Okae Molao in Randfontein by securing 127 arrests – most for assault GBH, domestic violence.

A total of 127 suspects were arrested by police in the West Rand District during another Operation Okae Molao held in Randfontein on Thursday September 9.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks provided a detailed list of arrests made:

• attempted murder (three)
• armed robbery (four)
• assault GBH (27)
• common assault (10)
• contravention of protection order (one)
• cruelty to animals (one)
• culpable homicide (one)
• drunken driving (five)
• domestic violence (11)
• fraud (two)
• house robbery (one)
• housebreaking and theft (four)
• intimidation (two)
• malicious damage to property (eight)
• possession of drugs (one)
• rape (six)
• robbery (six)
• reckless or negligent driving (one)
• sexual offence (one)
• theft (nine)

Some of the arrests related to illegal immigrants. Two fines were also issued to second-hand goods dealers for failing to keep registers as well as for failing to disclose property,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

She added that roadblocks resulted in 13 fines to the value of R21 000 being issued to non-complying motorists.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana thanked everyone for the hard work, unwavering support and commitment they showed in the fight against all forms of lawlessness during the operation.

“All suspects arrested will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon to face various charges,” Sergeant Hendricks added.
