Security guard assaulted in attempted housebreaking

Mapogo's latest crime report reveals three serious incidents last week.

A security guard was assaulted during an attempted housebreaking along Main Reef Road in the Randfontein CBD last week.

This was one of three serious incidents Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in Randfontein included in their latest crime report.

Mapogo operations manager, Ben Willemse gave a breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, September 6 at 01:05 – Attempted housebreaking on Main Reef Road in the Randfontein CBD

Intruders gained entry onto the premises by breaking palisade bars at the rear of the premises, but they were surprised by the guard. They assaulted the guard and fled the scene.

• Monday, September 6 at 05:50 – Damage to property on Volvo Street, Aureus

Thugs cut the electric fence wires but when the alarm was activated they fled the scene.

• Wednesday, September 8 at 15:37 – Housebreaking and theft on Falcon Street, Greenhills

Intruders gained entry onto the property by breaking the gate lock. They forced open the front door and security gate, stole two flat-screen TVs and fled the scene.

Willemse also provided the following crime-prevention tips:

• Always ensure that your alarm system is armed when you are not at home.

• Ensure that you have adequate safety barriers in place; this will not prevent crime but might scare off potential criminals from targeting your premises.

• Ensure that you provide your security company with adequate access onto your premises; this will ensure that the security officers can gain entry and thoroughly inspect the premises.
