Man turns himself in to police after stabbing, killing teen girlfriend

Justice must prevail – station commander after boyfriend turns himself in for allegedly stabbing his 18-year-old girlfriend to death.

A 21-year-old man has turned himself in after he allegedly stabbed his 18-year-old girlfriend to death over the weekend.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the incident took place in the Tambo Section of Bekkersdal at about 20:00 on Saturday September 4.

“It is alleged the woman cheated on the man. He has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” added Sergeant Lefakane.

Sergeant Lefakane said the police believe alcohol abuse remained one of the biggest causes of crime and urged people to drink responsibly at all times.

Bekkersdal Police station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela condemned the violent behaviour the perpetrator displayed in the name of ‘love’.

“A life has been lost, therefore justice must prevail,” Colonel Matamela added.
