FJL Wells bids beloved teacher of 31 years farewell

Management of FJL Wells Primary Mine School said farewell to their long-serving teacher after 31 years at the school.

Management of FJL Wells Primary Mine School said farewell to one of their stalwarts and long-time serving teachers of 31 years.

Makabu Martha Segone who was affectionately known as ‘Masegone’ among staff members served as the school’s Head of Department (HOD) for the Foundation Phase. She enjoyed a heartwarming send-off on Monday August 30 and also celebrated her 61st birthday.

Makabu, who many regarded as a mother, said she was passing the baton to the new generation of teachers as it was time for her to go rest and let her legacy play out.

In her heartfelt speech, Makabu said she would miss the little ones, and she advised teachers, particularly the young ones to keep learning and always put their learners first.

She appealed to her former colleagues to adapt to new methods of teaching by keeping abreast of technological advancements.

“In education, you never stop learning. Keep developing your capabilities, but most importantly, master you emotional intelligence,” Makabu said.

She went on to advise those whom she took under her wing to keep asking questions, and attend all the necessary workshops so that they could improve themselves as modern-day educators.

“Always remember, the sky’s the limit, and always remember togetherness prevails,” Makabu added.

On behalf of the staff members, principal Sello Mphatswe praised Makabu saying that her legacy would continue in the school system even after she has left.

“Maseogone has been an invaluable member of the school and the whole community of Bhongeni, and her contribution to our school has left a huge mark. We will miss her dedication, hard work, and always striving for quality of education to our learners.

“She has served the school for an unbroken 31 years. We thank God for blessing us with such a strong woman. Thank you Mam,” Sello said.
