No light at the end of the tunnel for Venterspos residents

Venterspos residents have been without electricity for nearly two weeks.

Monday, August 22 marked day 12 of Venterspos residents surviving without electricity, while water supply was a challenge during the weekend.

A photo of a collapsed electricity pole was shared with the Herald on Monday afternoon, which residents believe is a factor adding to their power woes.

Venterspos resident Annelie Jacobs said it is believed that vandals had broken the pole on Sunday.

“We don’t know who’s lying and who’s telling the truth; they’re just keeping us in the dark. We are going to take other measures because enough is enough!” Jacobs said.

Sonika Badenhorst said it’s unfair that when electricity went out in Kocksoord and Finsbury, the power was restored within a few hours. She said no one was willing to shed any light on when the power would be restored.

Danie Nortier said when he went past the substation on Monday morning, August 22 there was no one working on site; he said this was despite residents being told that the problem was being resolved.

“When it comes to the local elections we’re going to punish them hard. We cannot go on like this, many of us are elderly people and no one seems to see this as a matter of urgency. They don’t work on the weekends and overtime; they don’t want to help us,” Nortier said.
