An 18-year-old teen and his sister were held at gunpoint during a house robbery on Honeybird Street, Helikon Park at approximately 14:30 on Thursday, August 5.
Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks said a white BMW stopped in front of the house and an unknown man forced open the gate.
“The driver drove into the yard, and two men got out. They subsequently broke the wooden and burglar doors,” said Hendricks.
The intruders found the brother and sister inside the house and held them at gunpoint. The 18-year-old was injured while he tried to protect his sister.
They ransacked the house and fled the scene with flat-screen televisions and other items. The neighbours contacted the police and a look-out was given to police members,” explained Hendricks.
Hendricks said Westonaria Police recovered the vehicle at Ventersdorp Road and they arrested two suspects still in possession of the items that were stolen during the house robbery.
“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was a rental,” she said.
The suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, and detained at Westonaria Police cells.
Hendricks said the District Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana applauded and acknowledged the members for their swift response in arresting the suspects. He also expressed his gratitude towards the community who assisted their neighbours in their time of need.
