A 40-year-old man was shot and killed in his front yard during a hijacking in Bekkersdal on Monday, July 26.
According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane the incident happened at approximately 20:19 during which two armed hijackers managed to get away with the victim’s Toyota Hilux (HV 41 PG GP).
“It is believed that the victim had stopped his vehicle in the driveway to open the gate, and was ambushed by armed thugs who shot him in his chest before driving off with the bakkie,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
The victim’s brother rushed him to the Bekkersdal Clinic where he succumbed to his wounds.
“The hijackers are still at large, and a case of hijacking and murder is currently being investigated. Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators may contact the police on 08600 10111; alternatively send information anonymously on the my SAPS app that can be downloaded on every smartphone, or send an SMS to 32211,” she said.
