Four incidents this past week – Mapogo crime report

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from July 19 to July 25 – from a theft in Robin Park to robbery in Hectorton.

It was a relatively quiet week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with some incidents being reported in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said four incidents were reported for their client base for the period Monday, July 19 to Sunday, July 25.

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, July 19 at 03:35 – Housebreaking and theft, 2nd Street, Randfontein. Intruders forced open the roller door of the shop, stole items from the shop and fled the scene.

• Thursday, July 22 at 22:15 – Theft, Homestead Avenue, Robin Park. The site security guard pressed his panic button as intruders climbed over the fence. On Mapogo’s arrival the intruders fled the scene. It was found that they had stolen a short piece of power cable and two circuit breakers from the premises.

• Friday, July 23 at 16:54 – Robbery, Railway Road, Hectorton. The client’s son was walking along the railway line when he was confronted by two thugs who robbed him of his cellphone and fled the scene.

• Sunday, July 25 at 23:15 – Housebreaking and theft, Ventersdorp Road, Vogelstruisfontein. Intruders forced open the security gate and door, and stole household items and fled the scene.

Willemse gave the following tips with regards to preventing false alarms:

• Familiarise yourself with the operation and functions of the alarm system.
• Cancel any false alarm activation immediately by contacting the Mapogo Control Room on 010 492 4321.
• Ensure that the alarm system battery is in a good condition to avoid false alarms during power outages.
• Keep the area around motion sensors clear of obstructions.
• Ensure that all doors and windows are securely closed or locked prior to exiting the premises.
• Ensure that panic buttons or other emergency activation features are out of reach of children or areas with high movement to avoid accidental activations.
• Check the batteries of any wireless devices and the back-up power to the primary keypad.
• Keep alarm equipment in a good working order.
