Successful Okae Molao operation sees 104 arrests

At least 104 people were arrested during another mass West Rand District operation – most for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and undocumented immigrants.

Another Okae Molao Operation held by police in the West Rand District, this time in Magaliesburg, Hekpoort and Tarlton, led to the arrest of 104 people on Thursday, 27 May.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, spokesperson for the West Rand District Police and the Randfontein Police Station, suspects were arrested for offences such as murder (one); robbery (five); pointing a firearm at a person (one); assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (21); housebreaking (four); theft (six); domestic violence (seven); drunk driving (three); possession of drugs (five); malicious damage to property (four); intimidation (two); reckless or negligent driving (two); tampering with infrastructural equipment (one); contravention of protection order (one); and undocumented immigrants (35).

All arrested suspects will appear in different magistrates’ courts in the District soon.

Involved in the operation were the South African Police Service, Gauteng Traffic, Mogale Traffic, and Public Safety and Community Safety.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner expressed his gratitude to all members who dedicated themselves to ensuring the safety of citizens. Police officers were also encouraged to do their duties diligently with morals and values, and not be lured into corrupt activities,” Hendricks concluded.
