West Rand District gets more firefighters equipped to save lives

'We are a part of the people who are tasked with saving lives. This is essentially a necessity for everybody' – general manager of WoF in Gauteng.

The Working on Fire (WoF) programme in Gauteng has assigned six firefighters recently to undergo the structural firefighting course at Greyton Rural Metro Academy at the Fochville Fire Station on the far West Rand.

The six came from the Carletonville, Abe Bailey and Wedela bases respectively. Frank Maseko from the Maropeng base said he will assist in saving lives in communities.

Stephen Boyes, general manager of WoF in Gauteng said it is part of honouring the agreement of the training outcomes. This, he said, should serve as a springboard for their careers.

‘‘I trust our partner, the West Rand District Municipality in this regard will expose these youngsters to more activities. I am grateful that eventually they can do something different,’’ Stephen said.

‘‘We are a part of the people who are tasked with saving lives. This is essentially a necessity for everybody. So, a commitment by the fire department to strengthen and empower firefighters with more skills at no cost should be applauded,’’ Steven concluded.
