Extremely huge increase in crime mid-February, Mapogo warns

Clients and the public urged to be aware of their surroundings and circumstances, and to report any suspicious activity to a security service provider or the police.

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in Randfontein released its latest crime report.

It was a busy week with eight incidents being recorded within the period from Monday, 8 February to Sunday, 14 February.

According to Herman Coetzee, operations manager at Mapogo they have noticed an extremely huge increase in crime in mid-February.

Two incidents – one of housebreaking and the other of theft – were reported in the Greenhills area, and there were two incidents of common theft in Randgate and the Randfontein CBD respectively.

A thief stole a television from a shop in the Randfontein CBD. The television was recovered but the suspect fled on foot,” said Herman.

There were two separate incidents in Homelake – one of shoplifting and the other an armed robbery; an attempted housebreaking in Elandsvlei; and trespassing in the Randfontein CBD.

He urged clients and the public always to be aware of their surroundings and circumstances, and to report any suspicious activity to a security service provider or the police.
