Local school clears out grime from the drain system

Management of Cornerstone Christian School used cleaning chemicals to clean grime from their drains.

Management of Cornerstone Christian School recently took matters into their own hands by using litres of chemicals to clean grime from their drain system.

This after the school had struggled with sewage from the blocked sewerage drains overflowing onto their premises for two years, leaving a nasty odour.

Mietsie Kruger, founder and principal of the school explained that they have been battling with the municipality to clear the blockage because it posed a health hazard to learners and staff members, and it made it difficult to access the school. She believes that litter is deposited into the system higher up from the school, which blocks the system.

They eventually said enough was enough – something had to be done about the mess. So they decided to take matters into their own hands.

The situation was so bad for us that we could not wait any longer, especially because our school’s playground is very small. We poured a few 20 litre containers of chemicals into the drain systems to clear it, and we hope this will be very helpful,” Kruger said.
