Rodney the charity go-to man
'I have a number of projects coming up and I am really excited to get involved and make a difference' – Mr Randfontein 2020 Rodney Prins.
Title or not, 32-year-old Rodney Prins will continue to serve his community selflessly.
Regardless of whether or not he had won the title, Mr Randfontein 2020 would still have continued the community projects he was involved in.
“The whole process is so fulfilling. It gives you a platform to make a difference and explore different possibilities to improve the community,” he said.
Rodney entered the pageant because he loves what it stands for – being charity-driven and promoting success through leadership, character, confidence and integrity.
“I think it’s important to be kind and charitable to others regardless of whether you wear a crown, sash or title. I have a number of projects coming up and I am really excited to get involved and make a difference.”
According to Rodney, since being crowned Mr Randfontein 2020, he has been part of a few projects with Mrs Africa 2019 Reinette Herbst which he said was a memorable experience.
He has worked with Jane Khoza Mananiso as well as Miss Randfontein, Refilwe Mangope as a speaker at the LGBTQi+ conference, and worked with FEPA Magashane to host a Christmas party for the Elbad Children’s Home with Ms Randfontein Joey Khoza.
Rodney added that there is a need for community projects, food collection, stationery collection and meeting a whole lot of other needs because of the pandemic. Since 2015 he has been a project manager for the RACA Eisteddfod, but his focus is education and the development of the performing arts. He also directed and starred in a local film titled Toekomsrus Ons Erfenis, and joined the Just in Time Pageant Family in 2017. His Mr Randfontein 2019 reign has been extended by being named Mr Randfontein 2020.
