“We believe a Christmas Light Competition not only will create a sense of community but will help put back some pride in our town,” said Joy Hamann, RPA Publicity Officer.

This is an absolutely wonderful opportunity for the community to show off their creativity and beautiful houses – not only to the people of the town and surrounding areas, but to the world. I know there are people who have done it for years, but this is your chance to win a prize!” said Herald editor Clinton Botha.

There are three hampers up for grabs. The first-place winner will receive a hamper to the value of R1 500 (including R150 cash to help pay for the extra electricity used), the second-place hamper is worth R1 000 (cash included), and the third-place hamper is valued at R500 (cash included).

This competition is open to all homeowners in the Rand West City area, so hang your lights, get out the candy canes and be part of a new tradition. When you see the delight and awe on children’s faces, you will know you have done something to make others happy,” said Joy.

How to enter:

Participants should take a photo of their decorated home at night and WhatsApp it to Joy on 082 852 1860, together with their name and physical address. The Herald will give regular updates, both online and in print as new entries are received so that people will know where to find the houses and enjoy the lights.

The competition runs from Friday, 4 December 2020 and ends on Sunday, 3 January 2021.

Voting:

A slideshow of participating houses will be created on the Randfontein Publicity Association Facebook page, where the public will be asked to cast their vote. There is no voting opportunity on the Herald website. As another means of voting they can take a photo of the house they consider a worthy winner and WhatsApp it to 082 852 1860. The story on the Herald website will have a hyperlink/ click-through to the RPA’s Facebook page where all the voting needs to be done.

Vote here.

Winners (by majority vote) will be announced and notified in the first week of January, and will collect their prize from the Randfontein Publicity Association office.

Don’t delay! Send in your photos and details so we can start promoting your contribution to making our town great again!” said Joy.

“This competition is for the community to take their minds off all the bad of 2020, and finish the year on a festive and fun note,” Clinton concluded.
