Funds raised for a cash-strapped old age home

Management of the centre said they were affected by Covid-19 and some of their residents returned to their families.

The House Of Golden Oldies, and old age home in Randgate held a fundraiser to boost their ailing financial position on Saturday, 15 November.

Natasha Zoire, medical unit manager of the centre, said there was a great turnout of people who were willing to show their love and support during such a difficult time.

We need to pay salaries to our staff members and need to keep the centre going, that’s why we are raising funds,” Natasha said.

She attributed their current situation to the impact Covid-19 had and said they have lost 15 residents who are no longer able to afford living at the centre and have returned to their families.

On the day they raised funds by selling cooked curry and rice, boerewors rolls and soft drinks to visitors.

Natasha said families also had a chance to reunite with their loved ones whom they haven’t seen since the beginning of lockdown.

“Everyone had fun while a singer entertained the crowd and the children played on the jumping castle.”

Natasha said the centre currently takes care of 45 residents.

Having to care for them is such an honour. Despite the challenges, we believe that God will open doors for us, because these are His children and God always provides for his children. At the end of the day we are more than a big family and dedicated to taking care of the elderly,” Natasha said.
