During the handover the MEC said SAWBF is a waste buy-back centre that was established through co-funding by the West Rand District Development Agency and the National Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries. The aim is to achieve a sustainable environment by minimising waste that would otherwise be destined for landfills, creating job opportunities, and developing and supporting local entrepreneurs in the waste-management sector.
