A 30-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs on Tuesday night, 27 October.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the man was arrested in Zuurbekom during a police patrol.
“Members who were on site spotted the suspect on a bicycle carrying a backpack; they tried to stop him, but he resisted and ran. He threw the bag into the veld after abandoning his bicycle,” Lefakane said.
Lefakane said police managed to catch the suspect, and retrieved the bag only to discover that the suspect had been carrying different kinds of illegal substances.
“He was arrested immediately and charged with possession of drugs. He is due to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” Lefakane said.
