‘No one is above the law’ – govt about assault allegations at RWCLM

MMC for Health and Social Development says no one is untouchable when it comes to violence meted out against any human being.

Nozi Mapena-Dlamini, MMC for Health and Social Development condemned the assault allegations levelled against a high-ranking official of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).

In a media statement issued by Mapena-Dlamini, the MMC has noted with “utter disgust” the alleged brawl the official was involved in “more especially the official being a custodian of services related to gender-based violence and femicide.

We are aware that the victim opened a case with the Randfontein Police and we are encouraging the police to investigate the matter thoroughly without any interference,” Dlamini said.

Mapena-Dlamini went on to say police must conduct their work without any fear or favour, “… because no one is untouchable when it comes to violence meted out against any human being. No one is above the law; the police must simply do their due diligence so as to get to the bottom of the truth,” Dlamini said.

The intensity of violence and anger in our society is alarming, and for such flagrant act to rear its ugly head in our city after such a wonderful, forward-moving week is simply unacceptable. We appeal to all to give space to the police to duly perform their work and allow the law to take its course.”

Meanwhile, Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said the accused was not arrested but given a warning for common assault.

The Herald has approached the high-ranking municipal official for comment and is awaiting feedback.
