A passion for motorcross since age three

Although Daniel has quad bike races at the Randfontein Oval Raceway and impressed, his real passion lies in motorcross.

Daniel Hoile, 16, has made his mark at the Randfontein Oval Raceway with his natural talent as a quad-biker. Although he has won at least 70 per cent of his races, his true passion is motocross.

His successes include wins at the Open Wheels Regionals, Open Regionals, Quad 450 Regionals, and Quads Open Nationals.

“I achieved all of this at the age of 15, which I am very proud of,” the Roodepoort resident told the Herald.

Although he loves riding quad bikes and his accolades are impressive, motocross is the sport he wants to focus on and hopefully make his career one day.

The youngster explained he has been doing motocross since the young age of six – his dad bought him a bike when he was just three years old. Daniel grew up on a farm where he used to practise, but reached the point where he wanted to progress in the sport.

I would love to take part in international races in the future,” he said, adding that his favourite part of riding a motocross bike is the feeling when he jumps through the air and can hear the wind whooshing past him.

Although motocross is an exciting sport, it can be dangerous and riders need to wear as much protective gear as possible.

“I know what it is like to break bones, and I have two permanent screws in my knee, all thanks to riding motocross,” he said.

Daniel explained that you must have a passion for motorcycles to get into motocross. “Once you buy yourself one, go to a track and get as much saddle time as possible, because practice makes perfect.”

He added that there are a lot of helpful trainers and people at the tracks who will gladly assist new riders. When asked what he wishes to see on the motocross scene, he said that he wishes to see the sport grow to where it was many years ago.
