Covid-19 threat may force Carryou to close its doors after 20 years

'Without the funding, we will be forced to close down' – board treasurer.

Without funding, Carryou Ministry, a local non-profit organisation that has been in existence for 20 years, might be forced to close its doors.

Tony Jamison, board treasurer of the organisation wrote a letter to the Herald in which he explained the NGO’s desperate situation. They need a minimum of R60 000 per month to cover only their basic needs.

“We appeal to the Randfontein community and businesspeople for ongoing monthly funding. We care for approximately 800 orphans and vulnerable children at two drop-in centres, two crèches and a play group, and provide meals, stationery, food parcels and clothing etc for child-headed households.

“We also employ 150 caregivers and 10 office personnel. Without this funding we will be forced to close down, as our management staff cannot keep working without getting paid.

We have been active in this community for the past 20 years and are loath to close down now after so long.

“The support we are receiving does not fund our administrative operations and managers’ salaries, which are essential to the running of the organisation.

“We always strive to adhere to the calling we received 20 years ago to cater for the health and welfare needs of our community. We continue to see this as our priority. Particularly during this time of Covid-19, our services are required to care for the destitute and their children. We appeal to you.”
