Management of Avante Primary said they are adapting to the evolving changes that come with Covid-19.
They, however, remain doubtful that the school will function at 100 per cent capacity anytime soon.
Sam Jacobs, Deputy Principal and Commander of the Coronavirus Committee of the school, said the school has taken stringent precautions to protect learners and all the staff members.
For now we are coping just fine,” Jacobs said.
The Grade Rs, 6s and 7s are back at school, although some parents prefer not to send their children to school yet.
“We have action and management plans, policies and protocols, and we have made sure that everything was in place. Every morning, we make sure that we screen and record temperatures at the gates. Temperatures are recorded twice a day,” he said.
Jacobs said learners complete questionnaires in class, and sanitize their hands. He added that during breaks they stay in their classes and do not go out as they normally would.
In some classes we have assistants to help with the screenings during the day,” Jacobs added.
He said the school is also in contact with the local clinics, and they assist with the orientation of the learners. This is done as a standard procedure at every school.
Jacobs said working with young children has its challenges, but luckily the Grade 6s and 7s understand all the precautionary measures the school is taking.
“They are complying and they do not need to be reminded everyday to maintain social distancing. However, we may have challenges with coping with the situation when we operate at 100 per cent capacity,” Jacobs said.
