Run the Comrades with Roodepoort Athletics Club

All participants were reminded to adhere to the lockdown regulations pertaining to jogging

Following the announcement by Athletics South Africa (ASA) after long discussions with the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Board and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) to cancel the 2020 Ultimate Human Race, Roodepoort Athletics Club wanted to do something to motivate those who would be missing out as a result of the announcement.

“In an effort to motivate and uplift the spirits of everyone during this difficult period, we decided to host a 90km Comrades Marathon Virtual motivational run/ walk. The event started on 14 May, and participants have until 14 June to complete the distance,” Vincent Meyer from the club explained.

He added that they had 100 participants and were pleased to see the enthusiasm. “We are also doing this challenge to keep up interest not only in the sport, but also in the club, seeing that we are not allowed to train together at the moment,” Vincent said.

All participants were reminded to adhere to the lockdown regulations pertaining to jogging, such as the time frame in which exercise is allowed, and to wear masks.

Vincent concluded by saying, “All club members who completed the challenge must submit their results to us on 15 June, to receive their special award”.
