Local youth’s volunteering efforts an eye-opener

“In these unfortunate times it is important for us as young people to help those in need.”

This was said by local youth Deacon Nortman after he spent some time volunteering at the Cradle of Hope in Krugersdorp West.

The organisation used to feed around 600 of Krugersdorp’s most vulnerable on a daily basis, but recently they were forced to stop handing out peanut butter sandwiches and fruit in terms of the Department of Social Development’s restrictions.

“Recently we have been volunteering at the Cradle, a non-profit organisation that cares with love and integrity for those who are less fortunate. Volunteering has been an eye-opener for us and has shown us the reality of the dire situation that our country is currently in. It has taught us to be thankful for the little things in life.

“We assisted with preparing food and distributing it at the Cradle of Hope where hungry people line up every day. It has been a pleasure for us as a youth group to assist with serving and feeding the community,” Deacon said.
