Mannekrag, Wawa help the needy during lockdown

WAWA and Mannekrag join forces to curb the spread of Covid-19

Women Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA) and the Mannekrag Community Watch have committed to assisting the vulnerable and elderly people to survive the lockdown period.

“As we are now at day five of the lockdown, we thought it extremely important to be actively involved during this uncertain period,” said Enrique Bhana, WAWA centre manager.

He added that WAWA would continue to assist abused women and children by giving them shelter to stay safe.

Donovan Londt, member of the Mannekrag Community Watch said, “We are assisting the elderly and the general public to get their hands sanitized at ATMs before they use them”.

Londt added this would help to minimise chances of contracting the coronavirus (Covid-19) and that those who are vulnerable, especially the elderly people would remain safe during the lockdown period.

“We are doing this because people still need to stand in long queues to withdraw money and when visiting supermarkets for basic necessities.”

Bhana said WAWA has also advised people to practice social distancing and heed the call by President Cyril Ramaphosa to stay at home so that the outbreak can be brought under control.

“Despite this outbreak, we still have the responsibility of doing what we can to help and protect those who are in dire need of our help,” Bhana added.
