Ward councillor decries lack of service delivery

Ward 6 Councillor expressed his dissatisfaction about the continuous lack of service delivery in town.

Ward 6 Councillor Ellik de Lange has expressed his dissatisfaction with the continuous lack of service delivery.

He recommended municipal officials should visit sites often in order to see what residents within Rand West City are facing.

De Lange said it was neither fair nor acceptable, while ratepayers are expected to pay every month.

“If I look at Freda Avenue in Homelake, you will realise that for at least four years, we have been having issues regarding uncovered and vandalised electrical (power) boxes due to criminal elements,” De Lange said.

He added that trees are not prunes and grass isn’t cut, leaving the area unkempt.

“The roads are also riddled with potholes, street lights have not been working for months, and people are tired of flooding as a result of storm-water drains being blocked for over a year,” De Lange said.

“When the problems are reported, there is no response or update – and it frustrates residents.”

Although De Lange said he sympathised with the Rand West City Local Municipality’s financial challenges, he recommended that Members of the Mayoral Councils should visit sites on a regular basis to see for themselves the challenges residents are faced with in their respective wards.

“Perhaps this will help resolve issues,” De Lange added.
