On a mission to heal the world though music

Mvanakazi wants the world to acknowledge her talent.

Mvanakazi Mokoto Maduma, 30, from Mohlakeng is living proof that you can always reach your dream if you are passionate.

She now hopes that with the help from the community she will be able to release her next album, Igama Lakho.

“I was born a singer; that is what my grandmother used to say. I started singing when I was in primary school, and I was a leader in the school choir. My music career began in 2017 when I recorded my first album Wipe my tears which I dedicated to my grandmother.”

Unlike some artists, Mvanakazi did not throw in the towel when circumstances got in her way when she tried to release her first album.

“As a Christian, I prayed for all my burdens to pass.”

She said she chose gospel music because it contains a powerful message to the broken world. “It is a way of communicating with God and to heal the world.”

Mvanakazi explained that the journey was not easy, as sometimes they would book her without payment; however, music is not about money, it is all about passion and pursuing your dreams. Her life is her inspiration to her music; she writes music about every situation she faces.

“I talk to myself through music. When I am sad, I turn my sadness into a song. I write my own songs as I do not believe in recycling songs,” she said.

When asked about her career highlights, Mvanakazi wasted no time and said, “I wrote a song Igama lakho for a West Rand Gospel Artist event, went there and performed. It was a powerful song. When I got off the stage, a producer approached me and offered to record the song. We recorded the song and released it, and people loved it. It was nominated for best song of the year at the Golden Art and Media Awards (GAMA awards) in Pretoria, and won.

“I am looking for a sponsor for my single album, Igama Lakho so that people can know about me and see the power my song contains. People around me know the song but what about the universe. I want people to receive the message. I want the song to be out there. I want my fans to agree with me that indeed, it is a great song.”
