Stage 1 load-shedding to be implemented today

To assist Eskom in reducing the stage of load-shedding, they appeal to customers to use electricity sparingly

Eskom has announced that it will continue to implement stage 1 rotational load-shedding from 9am today, 11 February owing to a shortage of generating capacity.

They further stated that their teams are working hard to reduce unplanned outages or breakdowns, which were at 11 875MW as of 3:50pm yesterday afternoon. Eskom has been using emergency water reserves for its hydro pumped storage, and diesel for its open-cycle gas turbines yesterday to supplement the storage in generating capacity.

Eskom will provide a day ahead prognosis as the system remains vulnerable. They request customers to use electricity sparingly to reduce demand during this period.

Eskom also wishes to remind South Africans that there is a possibility of load-shedding over the next 18 months as they are conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health.
