Long-time golf club employee celebrates 90th birthday

'The idea was to show appreciation for his dedication and loyalty.'

Randfontein Golf Club hosted a 90th birthday party for its retired and long-serving employee, Ernest Manyise, on Saturday, 1 February.

Lilian Swanepoel, manager of the club, said it was a token of respect towards Ernest for having dedicated his life as a chef to the club for almost 45 years.

The idea was to show appreciation for his dedication and loyalty. Ernest was very dedicated to his work. He always went the extra mile and was such an excellent employee,” Lilian said.

Ernest, who officially retired late last year, said he was grateful that the club was still valuing what he had brought to the company in the almost five decades he worked there.

“I have managed to raise my family from working here. I am really grateful for the many years that I have been here. They did not treat me like just another employee but throughout the years, I was like family. It remains so even today,” Ernest said.
