NGO pleads for more support from businesses

Businesses urged to assist NPO to feed and help the needy.

Multi Charity Randfontein has urged more businesses to come forward and support their mission to eradicate poverty.

Monica Lancellas of Multi Charity said although they are extremely grateful for the support shown by the community since it was founded three years ago, more needs to be done.

“My husband and I are doing a lot of the work. We are involved in many projects and are passionate about the difference we want to bring about in many impoverished communities and families.

“For example, on 15 December, we managed to feed more than 200 people. We put together food packs, which included the salads, chicken and sausages we prepared,” Monica explained.

“Realistically, we will not be able to eradicate poverty completely, but we can make a small a difference in the lives of the hungry. This drives us. At this moment we generate an income by means of the books, clothes, appliances and other household items donated by members of the public.

“We sell these items for as little as between R10 and R30, and use the money to buy food such as macaroni, rice, butter, tea, samp and bread to prepare a nice meal for the needy at least once a month,” Monica said.

They also make up food parcels, which they distribute among the needy during special times of the year, such as the festive season.

Monica said through the project they have helped people from the plots in Wheatlands and Bootha, Randfontein CBD, Dick Powell Villas and Middelvlei, but will do more as the project grows.

“At this moment, we are helping the children of breadwinners who have lost their jobs to buy school stationery and uniforms. We thank every business that contributed to making it possible. Even the smallest donation can go a long way towards helping the next person,” Monica said.
