Finish 2019 with a 10km run on New Year’s Eve

Come the 31st of December, residents can put on their running shoes and go into the New Year by taking part in a 10km run.

Runners are encouraged to enter the annual 10km event to be held on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, 31 December.

Colossus Athletics Club (CAB) is the host, and the race starts and finishes at the Greenhills Sports Stadium.

Andrew Vusi Mathiya, CAB acting chairperson and race organiser said they expect the field of entries to increase.

As far as expectations go, local athlete Kabelo Melamu and his training partner Andries Sesedi are once again expected to shine on home turf.

The duo have recently caused an upset at the World Aids Day 10km and 21km race held in Ekurhuleni, with Andries winning the 21km event in a time of 68 minutes and 4 seconds, while Kabelo won the 10km event in a time of 29 minutes and 37 seconds.

In addition, Andries was nominated as Central Gauteng Athletics’ Most Promising Junior Athlete. He was also the first junior to cross the finish line at the Soweto Marathon 10km race.
