Gogo Christmas party coming to Mohlakeng

SADMON, a social impact agency, in conjunction with Chomaka Catering, is planning to host a Gogo Christmas event for the elderly (bonkgono) in Mohlakeng on Friday, 20 December.

According to Mapheto Sadiki of Sadmon, they have been hosting the Gogo Early Christmas event for the last three years.

“This event further seeks to appreciate the value that bonkgonobring to our lives in different ways, as well as recognising the various challenges they face in caring for different households. On the day, we welcome about 500 grannies – sponsorship permitting – to be part of the event. Various people will be assisting with welcoming guests, as cooks, waiters, and runners, there will be a brass band and different performers, just to mention a few.”

The press release also stated that the event enjoys the support of the Rand West City Local Municipality and some local businesses.

“These organisations have seen the value that this project brings to the community of Mohlakeng. Together with these organisations, we seek to amplify the Gogo Christmas initiative to make it a sustainable event we can implement throughout the year. We seek to make lasting memories for the elderly who reside around Mohlakeng by giving them an early Christmas,” Mapheto said.
