Western Hockey club makes their first mark at Champ of Champs tournament
Western Hockey Club celebrates their huge achievements for the year
The Western Hockey Club (WHC) celebrated their first year of participation in the Southern Gauteng leagues, and the U/13s, U/15s and their Open boys’ and girls’ teams all ended close to the top of their leagues.
The U/13 girls’ team took part in the Champ of Champs tournament that was held at the Randburg Astrofield on 15 September, and competed against all the Gauteng hockey clubs. The team was undefeated in their pool and finished fourth overall.
Player of the year was awarded to the following:
• Open Boys – Innocent Nampa
• Open Girls – Kayla Smit
• U/15 Girls – Nicoleen du Plessis
• U/13 Girls – Bronwyn Holtzhausen
Jordyn Ehmke was awarded as the top goal scorer for the Open girls’ team.
Most improved player was awarded to:
• Open Boys – Teboho Zwane
• Open Girls – Shaina Roodt
• U/15 Girls – Yolindi Mostert
• U/13 Girls – Ashleigh Stein
In March 2020, the WHC will launch their mini hockey section, which will cater for boys and girls in the U/5 to U/11 age groups.
