A talk about female abuse and femicide was held at the Emmanuel New Life Centre in Toekomsrus on Saturday, 5 October.

According to the World Health Organization, femicide is generally understood to involve intentional murder of women because they are women, but broader definitions include any killing of women or girls.

Large numbers of people gathered to listen to the talk.

The event was organised by Oscar Oliphant from Business Innovation Services who is also a member of the Emmanuel New Life Centre. The event was organised primarily to create a platform where men could be part of the dialogue.

“We believe the solution for the scourge rests with men, because men are the perpetrators,” Oscar said.

Pastor Mervin Langeveld.

“We are excited about the turnout, and very encouraged by the West Rand bikers’ club, churches, the Randfontein/Toekomsrus Taxi Association, Unity Burial Society, Toekomsrus Mannekrag and all the other residents and organisations who came to listen and share what they heard here today,” Oscar concluded.
